今アメリカは大変だ！Bostonの事件、二人のmugshotが発表された。FBIやHomeland Security,

Policeが必死に追っている。時間の問題だが、願わくばイスラム系の人間でないことを望む。これ

以上アメリカとイスラム社会が対立するのはよくない。テキサス州での肥料工場爆発事件、１５人

も死亡、１５０名以上が負傷、何より周囲５Mileが被害を受けたという。近くに老人ホームや学校

があったというから驚く。それにしてもMississippi州の４５歳の男、大統領や二人の議員に

ricin-laced lettersを送ったとのこと。これは猛毒だそうだ。かって欧州でブルガリアの

出国者がこの猛毒を付けた傘でつつかれ死亡したこともある猛毒だそうだ。彼は気が狂って

いるので罪にはならないかもしれない。またあのAmerican航空がcomputerのglitchにより

全世界で飛行が一時できなくなった。パキスタンの前大統領Musharraf氏、最近帰国し名誉回復を

求めようとしたが自宅軟禁で逮捕された。

 今日の文法　 

○　always, constantly, usually, repeatedly, continually, perpetually,

などの副詞を伴う進行形は現在の反復的な習慣をあらわす。

ばかりしている、～する習慣だ

He is always grumbling.

The boy is constantly doing mischief.

○ wouldの特別用法でif clauseにwouldがあれば「もし～する気があれば」

He would teach you if you would learn.

君に勉強する気があれば～ 意思を示す

○ 助動詞としてのbe

皆さん、以下３つのbeは助動詞だということ認識していましたか？

学校で単にbe＋~ingが進行形と習った方多いはず、ではそのbeは品詞は？

１：この助動詞beは現在分詞とともに進行形をつくる

 Then she was enjoying the shifting scenes outside the carriage window.

 車窓の移りゆく景色を楽しんでいた

２：この助動詞beは他動詞の過去分詞とともに受動態をつくる

 The candle was blown out in the wind.

３：この助動詞beは往来発着を表す自動詞の過去分詞と完了形をつくる

 The sun was already set when I got to the hot spring.

 

○ 進行形は一時的な動作や有意識的動作の継続を表すので状態を表す次の

次の動詞は進行形にできない、但し進行形にすると別な意味になる

動詞のbe, have, seem, belong, differ, contain, need, remember, forgetは

She is having a doll in her hand. 不可→She has a doll in her hand.　持つは進行形不可

He is having his lunch now. 可　食べている

 I am remembering English words.  　英単語を覚えている　　　　可

　　You are forgetting yourself.  　　　君は正気を失いかけている 　可　　

　　つまり状態動詞はは進行形にできないのである。動作動詞は進行形にできる

　　以下はどう考えたらいいか？

I though I was just being paranoid.　ちょっと考えすぎだと思う

Don't be paranoid.　細かいことにこだわり過ぎるな。

このparanoidはこまかい事を気にする（偏屈症だけではない）

The house is being built.（建物が）建築中である、建設中である、建ちつつある  

状態動詞のbeが進行形にできるのです。　助動詞のwas/is+動詞のbeing（現在分詞）は故意にいう意味を　　　　含みます。これにつては後日詳しく述べます。

○　more than　について

 少なくとも1ダース卵が必要なら、12個以上を買わねばならい

 If you need at least a dozen eggs, then you have to buy more than 12.   不可

 It takes more than two hours. 2時間以上かかる（2時間は含まない）

  If you need at least a dozen eggs, then you have to by more than 11.     ○

 If you need at least a dozen eggs, then you have to buy 12 or more.     　○

日本語の12以上は12も含むが、英語のmore than 12は12を含まない

 

 More than one volunteer are needed here.  不可

 more than＋単数名詞　→意味上は複数だが単数動詞で呼応

   但し

○　More than one is expected to attend the meeting.   ○

 More than one are expected to attend the meeting.  ○

     More than oneが単独で（volunteerなど名詞がない）用いられたときは

     oneに強勢あれば単数 moreに強勢があれば複数  

○　most

    Most of people like to have long vacations in the summer.   不可

 Most people like to have long vacations in the summer.        ○　　

　限定されていないpeople　 

 I have finished most of my work.                        　　　　  　○   

my（代名詞）で限定

 I have finished most my work.                            不可

　　理由：あとに続く名詞が一般的で限定されいないもの

→most people限定されていない

　　    限定詞や代名詞を伴っている場合はofが必要

            　→ most of the people

 

    Our sales network covers the most of Japan.　　　　　　　　不可

    Our sales network covers most of Japan.　　　　　　　　　　○

 most にofが続く場合はmostの前にthe (冠詞)は誤り

 

○ as it is 

仮定法では、　if　　　,　but as it is            しかし実際は

文尾では     I intend to see the world as it is. ありのままに, as they are,

  I bought the old house as it stood.古い家をそのままで

文中では Japan, as she is, has not been fully democratized. 現状では

ではまた
