例えば、単語ではprocrastination, squander, reciprocal,熟語では fly in the ointment, hot potato,等。

I would appreciate it if There is no way S+V. There is no way I can beat him. There is no way I could miss that. If I had studied English at high school, I would speak it fluently now. 更にWithout ~~~, ~~~~.

Atta boyThat’s a boy. That's my boy!

make my day! He saved the day with another goal.

(人間万事塞翁が馬Every cloud has a silver lining,. Inscrutable are the ways of heaven,(補語が文頭に出て倒置、強調構文、目的語が文頭の場合は倒置は起こらない・・文法問題)Fortune is unpredictable and changeableや(乾坤一擲けんこんいってき」の勝負をする)risk everything on one last throw of the dice運を天にまかせて、のるかそるかの大勝負をすること。

knock on wood

“Knock on wood.”

Yesterday afternoon, plumes of dark ash clouds rising fast and furious over Sakurajima started bearing down on us, pounding ,whipping, sneering at us, residents of Aira-city.

Damn it all, I forgot to ”knock on wood” when we gave a horselaugh at the sight of tons of volcanic ashes wafting through the air into Kagoshima-city. (despicable behavior though)  Luckily we had light rain-shower after that, if not enough.

People in Kagoshima are, either pleased or depressed depending on the direction of ash-flow, aren’t they? Now people impossible to escape from Sakurajima should kiss and make up, shouldn’t we? You say, “ kiss the Blarney stone?” Yes, you can say that again! !Experience counts!

mellow out with agesなんです

今日の熟語、face the music, call the shots= call the tune, 大学入試問題より.

Residents in a southern Japanese city were busy washing ash off the streets Monday after a nearby volcano spewed a record-high smoke plume into the sky. Ash wafted as high as 5 kilometers (3 miles) above the Sakurajima volcano in the southern city of Kagoshimaon Sunday afternoon, forming its highest plume since the Japan Meteorological Agency started keeping records in 2006. Lava flowed about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from the fissure, and several huge volcanic rocks rolled down the mountainside. Though the eruption was more massive than usual, residents of the city of about 600,000 are used to hearing from their 1,117-meter (3,664-foot) neighbor. Kagoshima officials said in a statement that this was Sakurajima's 500th eruption this year alone. Residents wore masks and raincoats and used umbrellas to shield themselves from the falling ash. Drivers turned on their headlights in the dull evening gloom, and railway service in the city was halted temporarily so ash could be removed from the tracks. Officials said no injuries or damage was reported from the volcano, which is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) east of the city. By Monday morning, the air was clearer as masked residents sprinkled water and swept up the ash. The city was mobilizing garbage trucks and water sprinklers to clean up. "The smoke was a bit dramatic, but we are kind of used to it," said a city official who requested anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to the media. JMA says there are no signs of a larger eruption but similar activity may continue. It was maintaining an earlier warning that people not venture near the volcano itself. Japan is on the "Ring of Fire," the seismic faults encircling the Pacific Ocean , and has frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.

Tense international situation, esp, strained territorial dispute between China and Japan

Ties between
China and Japan have been strained by a territorial dispute over uninhabited East China Sea islets and hawkish Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won a decisive victory in upper house elections.Japan is likely to start considering acquiring the ability to launch pre-emptive military strikes in a planned update of its basic defense policies, the latest step away from the constraints of its pacifist constitution.

The expected proposal, which could sound alarm bells in China, is part of a review of Japan's defense policies undertaken by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's government. The final conclusions of the review are due out by the end of the year. Just what hardware might come under consideration is as yet unclear. And with a huge public debt,
Japan may be in no position to afford the bill. Obtaining the ability to strike missile bases in mainland China would be an even bigger stretch, requiring for example intercontinental missiles.

Article 9 of Japan's constitution, drafted by U.S. occupation forces after its defeat in World War Two, renounces the right to wage war and, if taken literally, rules out the very notion of a standing army. In reality,Japan's Self-Defense Forces are one of Asia 's strongest militaries.

TPP
As for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, Abe’s government, no matter what, would participate in it. For him, TPP is
one of many measures to defend Japan from arrogantly assertive China. Also, TPP is a military treaty rather than an economic treaty, in fact, security treaty by the nations which have been feeling threats against China .

As for the man well versed in the strategy surrounding Japan, he shouldn’t have campaigned against TPP excessively. But he laid stress on it. knowingly, he did to garner a lot of votes from agricultural organization in Kagoshima. It was a sort of Pork-barrel politics as ever. We call it a bunkum campaign. Once a treaty being sealed to participate, how he would account for the reason. The word of Globalization contains many paradoxes and oxymorons. We, voters, constituency, voted for him taking his campaign with a grain of salt.

我々選挙民はTPP反対という彼の主張を割り引いて(with a grain of salt)投票したのだ。
